{"id":277715,"date":"2024-07-31T07:19:16","date_gmt":"2024-07-31T07:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/103.96.117.73\/~deeplynourished\/?p=277715"},"modified":"2024-09-16T23:42:26","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T23:42:26","slug":"why-more-willpower-isnt-the-answer-to-healthier-eating-or-what-is-stopping-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeplynourished.co.nz\/?p=277715","title":{"rendered":"Why More Willpower Isn\u2019t the Answer to Healthier Eating or What is Stopping You"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As a dietitian, one of the biggest&nbsp;client&nbsp;frustrations I hear is, \u201cI know what I should be eating, but I just can\u2019t&nbsp;do&nbsp;it.\u201d The problem isn\u2019t&nbsp;often a&nbsp;lack of&nbsp;general&nbsp;information, but situationally specific information, and understanding&nbsp;goals, unmet needs and personally appropriate strategies, to alter your&nbsp;environment&nbsp;&amp; the habits which&nbsp;hold you back.&nbsp;So,&nbsp;It\u2019s&nbsp;absolutely not&nbsp;about willpower, but about mindset, behaviors, and making changes step by step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some key misconceptions about change that really need clearing up for people who seek better health.&nbsp;A lot of people get stuck because they\u2019re looking for quick fixes&nbsp;by brute force, but real change&nbsp;is an art that&nbsp;takes time&nbsp;and sensitivity. Setbacks are a normal part of the&nbsp;learning&nbsp;journey. What\u2019s important is&nbsp;reviewing how the miss-steps and mistakes actually came to be and then tweaking your plans and strategies to accommodate and overcome the hurdles. I notice that clients neglect to celebrate small wins along the way, ultimately invalidating their hard work and which make each milestone feel few and far between. This leads to people having big lapses in motivation or giving up altogether.
